I am now off to write some reviews of the books that I have read, also planning on what I want to post in the upcoming days.  I hope that everyone has a great week and happy reading.

The War Reporter: A Novel

518m6jbeZNL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_Winner of a Jewish National Book Award and author of The List and Jacob’s Oath, both of which achieved outstanding critical acclaim, NBC Special Correspondent Martin Fletcher delivers another breathtaking tale of love, war, and redemption.

Tom Layne was a world-class television correspondent until his life collapsed in Sarajevo. Beaten and humiliated, he fell into a hole diagnosed as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Eleven years later he returns to the Balkans to film a documentary on the man who caused his downfall: Ratko Mladic, Europe’s biggest killer since Hitler, wanted for genocide and crimes against humanity. Mysterious forces have protected Mladic for a decade, preventing his arrest, and these shadowy but deadly foes swing into action against the journalist. Tom soon falls into a web of intrigue and deceit that threatens his life as well as that of the woman he loves.

Drawing upon his own experiences reporting on the wars in Bosnia and Sarajevo, Martin Fletcher has written a searing love story and a painfully authentic account of a war reporter chasing down the scoop of a lifetime.

Anderson Cooper called Martin Fletcher the gold standard of TV war correspondents, and he is rapidly building a new reputation as an author. His second book, “Walking Israel,” won the National Jewish Book Award, after he won almost every award in TV journalism. They include five Emmies, the du Pont, the TV Pulitzer, several Overseas Press Club awards and the Edward R. Murrow award for excellence several times.
For three weeks he walked across the Hindu Kush mountains from Pakistan into Afghanistan with the Mujahideen, he was the only television reporter to join the Khmer rouge in Cambodia, the only reporter to enter the American embassy in Tehran when Iranian students held American diplomats hostage for 444 days.
His new novel, Promised Land, draws on his decades of reporting in Israel to paint a searing, intimate portrait of a struggling family set to the story of a struggling nation. Nelson deMille wrote, “historical fiction doesn’t get much better than this.”

🌼My Thoughts

This is the first time for this author, seen this book at an airport book shop, but I passed it up, sound interesting but I didn’t want to pay the price for it.  After my trip I had to stop at our local Dollar Tree and seen it there and thought what a $1.00 for this book, I put it in my basket.

I don’t remember much about the war in Bosnia and I was interested in what it is like to be a foreign correspondent in a dangerous setting. So I selected The War Reporter by former NBC journalist, Martin Fletcher.

I found the writing is slow with minimal action inserted. The storytelling is average.  I just couldn’t get into the story line, there were times that I found that the chapters were so long and drawn out.

I had to force myself to finish. The first half of the book was great, the second half was horrible. I am so glad that I got this book at a discount store instead of paying full price for it.  I am give it 3 stars out of five. It just wasn’t what I thought it was going to be.

HELLO HELLO

Good afternoon and it’s Friday and jut 4 more hours until I am done with work.  So how did everyone’s week go?  Mine was excessively busy, but at least the week went by fast.  I had so much planned and wanted to get done during the week, but no luck in finishing some of those projects.  Although in the evenings, I did find time to read and finished two books:  The first book was The War Reporter by: Martin Fletcher which I have reviewed and will post here on my blog tomorrow.  I had a hard time with book.  If you read I would love to know how you felt about it.

The second book that I finished was The Lost Sister by: Tracy Buchanan and what an 0008264643awesome read This is the first book that I have read by this author and I noticed there are more to this series and I am on the hunt for them.  I will be doing my review on this, later this weekend.

I have started another one called The Chain by Adrian McKinty, which I have been hearing a lot about.  So I looked for it at my local library and placed it on hold and its finally available.  I am only on Chapter 4 but so far I love it and I need to go home and read instead of being at work.

I hope that everyone has a great weekend.

Happy reading and reviewing!

Final Review

51N60zXWgNLIn Reconstructing Amelia, the stunning debut novel from Kimberly McCreight, Kate’s in the middle of the biggest meeting of her career when she gets the telephone call from Grace Hall, her daughter’s exclusive private school in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Amelia has been suspended, effective immediately, and Kate must come get her daughter—now. But Kate’s stress over leaving work quickly turns to panic when she arrives at the school and finds it surrounded by police officers, fire trucks, and an ambulance. By then it’s already too late for Amelia. And for Kate.

An academic overachiever despondent over getting caught cheating has jumped to her death. At least that’s the story Grace Hall tells Kate. And clouded as she is by her guilt and grief, it is the one she forces herself to believe. Until she gets an anonymous text: She didn’t jump.

Reconstructing Amelia is about secret first loves, old friendships, and an all-girls club steeped in tradition. But, most of all, it’s the story of how far a mother will go to vindicate the memory of a daughter whose life she couldn’t save.

Fans of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl will find Reconstructing Amelia just as gripping and surprising.

My Thoughts

So I have been hearing about this book, I kept putting it off, I finally decided to give it a shot.  The authors writing style was a little different from what I usually read.  I felt that it was more of a diary form writing.  Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed and now for my honest opinion of it.

I liked so many things about this book. It had a great way of going back and forth through time to piece together what happened up to Amelia’s death and what was happening after her death. Her mother, after receiving a message on her phone, decided to go to the police and insist they look past the idea that this was a suicide.

In an age where we’ve been tempted to judge people by their worst moments, McCreight brings us a tale of a promising young student’s death from a fall off her prep-school’s roof. What it her choices that brought her there? Or, was there something darker, more sinister at work? Reconstructing Amelia brings a cast of characters, all flawed, and all with secrets that weave a tapestry of deception, bullying, and cruelty.

In the end, the case is solved. Things come to light about Amelia’s friends, things she was involved in, and what really happened to her.

I did enjoy this book. It was about 380 pages but it was a fast read. It was a true page turners. There were a lot of surprises throughout the book and it didn’t drag.  I am giving it 4/5 stars and If you haven’t read pick up a copy and read it.

🌼My Thoughts

I had seen and heard this book being talked about on one of my Facebook groups I belong to so I thought I would try it.  The story was well written and pretty believable. This is the first book that I have read by this author. And I definitely will add L.G. Davis to my list of authors i’ll be looking for in the future.

Do you like a book you can’t put down? If so, this is one for you. Though the events in the life of the main character are almost unbelievable, the story is so fast paced that a reader can hardly wait to see how it evolves. I liked the Paige character but her brother Ryan was so cruel to her. Paige would stand up to him, then back down.  There were times that I wanted to knock Paige upside the head and tell her to stand strong with the brother and not back down.  The theme of love for a sibling, a man (two actually) and a child is woven into the story; but I found this brother was just too much and to blame his sister for his accident.   I found the storyline was really good and I did not see the end coming.

I highly recommend this book. A lot of twists and turns.  Well written book! I am giving this 5/5 stars.

Book versus E-books

Books versus E-books

So here is a question that I was asked from a family member, Do I like actual books or reading from Kindle / Ipad?  What do you prefer Books or e-books?

Now to answer that question I like both, I have no preference, although when I travel I do prefer the e-books as I can add as many as I want to my Kindle / Ipad, yes I have both and I usually travel with both.  I love to buy books but my book shelfs were getting full and then I asked what you do with those books that you have read?  Me personally I keep those that I really like and some I have sent to my Aunt and others I just give away.  However, most are just sitting on my bookshelf.

I decided to do a little google search and see what others thought of this topic.  There were some articles on this, and then I found one that was a catchy read, called

50 Reasons Real Books are Vastly Superior to E-Books By:  David Ferrer.  I will share a few of these, reasons and include the link to this article and you can read further.  The top 10 that I found interesting, and funny way of explaining Books versus E-books:
